Chelsea made a significant signing in the summer agreeing a deal for Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea paid Borussia Dortmund almost 60 million pounds for the American international.
Pulisic is now on loan at Dortmund until the end of the season, while he’ll move to Chelsea in the summer.
There’s more than six months to go before the start of the 2019-20 Premier League season. However there are already fears that Pulisic’s league debut for Chelsea may be pushed back.
While there is no World Cup or European Championships this summer, there are a handful of international competitions in the off-season.
One will be the 2019 Copa America, while there’s also the 2019 Gold Cup.
The United States, after missing out on qualification for Russia 2018, are set to take the Gold Cup seriously.
That means Pulisic is set to be selected, which may affect his Chelsea debut date. As reported in the Daily Mail:
The United States want to pick their strongest squad possible, with Pulisic included, for the CONCACAF tournament which runs from June 15 to July 7.
If they go deep into the competition, it will see the 20-year-old miss the start of Chelsea’s pre-season because of the recommended three weeks’ rest before beginning work for the new campaign at his new club.
That’s bad news for Chelsea’s pre-season plans, and their new signing won’t be on tour.
Working on the basis that the US reach the final, Pulisic may only start his Chelsea pre-season on July 28.
The Premier League have yet to confirm the start date for the 2019-20 season, however it’s likely to be August 10.
With less than two weeks to get ready for English football, Pulisic may take some time before turning out for the Blues.
