Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang told to quit Gabon
Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played 90 minutes in the draw against Burundi.
The main contribution of the Gunners forward was a booking in the match.
Prior to the Burundi game, there were doubts whether Aubameyang would even show up to play for the national team.
The Arsenal striker had only played twice in Gabon’s last five matches.
Moreover, despite previously being called up to the national squad, Aubameyang didn’t show up for games against South Sudan and Mali.
Aubameyang has also spoken openly in the past about quitting the Gabon team.
The morning after the Burundi game, the Sunday Times report that Aubameyang’s international retirement may soon come to an end:
Gabon fans called on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to retire from international duty after the Arsenal striker’s return to the side could not inspire them to qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Aubameyang, 29, has also been slammed on social media for a free-kick in the final stages of the match against Burundi.
Gabon have about 20 seconds left to score or they will fail to qualify for AFCON. They get a free kick in a dangerous position with everyone in the box for it.
