Harry Kane heaps praise on Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi

Soccer News

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has this evening heaped praise on Callum Hudson-Odoi, on the back of the Chelsea youngster’s first 2 days of training with England’s senior squad.

England’s road ahead

Gareth Southgate’s men are set to get their European Championship qualifying campaign under way over the coming week.

The Three Lions will first welcome the Czech Republic to Wembley on Friday evening, before travelling to Montenegro for a potentially tricky outing next Monday.

Hudson-Odoi called up

Ahead of his side’s upcoming pair of fixtures, Gareth Southgate announced his 25-man squad last Wednesday.

However, a quartet of stars, in the form of John Stones, Fabian Delph, Luke Shaw and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, have since pulled out of England’s panel.

And one of those to have benefitted from the extra room created in the Three Lions’ squad is Chelsea prodigy Callum Hudson-Odoi.

After initially being named as part of Aidy Boothroyd’s U21 setup, the 18-year-old was subsequently handed his first call-up to his country’s senior squad yesterday afternoon.

‘Everyone knows he’s a fantastic player’

Hudson-Odoi has since gone on to take part in his first two days of training with the rest of the English squad, with one of the gifted winger’s teammates to have been particularly impressed by his performance having been Harry Kane.

Speaking in a news conference a short time ago, Spurs hitman Kane compared and contrasted his own rise to stardom with that being enjoyed by Hudson-Odoi at present, before revealing his opinion that the Chelsea starlet possesses all of the characteristics ‘to play at the highest level’:

‘Everyone has a different path to the top. Mine was going out on loan and trying to get that experience.’

‘Callum has had a taste of cup competitions and a little bit in the Premier League.’

‘I’m sure he wants to play and gain that experience at the highest level. We’ll see how he progresses over the next few years or so – whether he does that where he is now, or if he does that maybe on loan or with another team.’

‘It’s vital for young players coming through to play and get the experience. Everyone knows he’s a fantastic player. In football you go through ups and downs and that’s all part of the journey.’

‘I’m sure he’ll experience that over the next few years but I’ve no doubt that he’s got the ability to play at the highest level.’
