Wolves 2 – Manchester United 1
Prior to the international break, Man United were knocked out the FA Cup at Wolves.
Goals from Raul Jimanez and Diogo Jota booked Wolves a spot in the semifinals.
Marcus Rashford scored a consolation for United.
Against Wolves, Jesse Lingard played 88 minutes of the match.
Prior to the FA Cup match, Lingard had been struggling with injury issues.
Jesse Lingard vs Gareth Southgate
In today’s Sunday Times, Lingard is handed a warning about his place in the England setup.
The broadsheet reveals that Gareth Southgate wasn’t best pleased with Lingard’s involvement against Wolves, as the Man United star withdrew from joining up with the Three Lions. Readers are told:
Southgate was “surprised” by Lingard playing for Manchester United last Saturday, three days after indicating that he was not fit to be called up by England.
Southgate omitted him from a 25-man group only to see Lingard appear for United in their subsequent FA Cup tie away to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
After that match, Southgate spoke again to Lingard, who said he had been conscious of his injury while playing and needed a further period of training.

One suspects that Lingard only finds himself in this position due to the kids coming through the ranks with the national team.
All of a sudden there’s competition for places in England’s attack.
While Harry Kane will always start as centre-forward, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho are now alternatives to Rashford or Lingard.
