One of the biggest summer transfers?
Manchester City are ‘closing in on’ a deal to buy Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez after supposedly overtaking Barcelona in the race to sign him.
Saul has grown into one of the best midfielders in La Liga over the past few years.
As well as the fact that Saul has a knack for scoring incredible goals, the Spaniard is very versatile.
That has lead to interest predominantly from Barcelona.
It was also suggested all the way back in December that Man City were considering a move.
Now, a new report has suggested that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are close to a deal.
Man City soon to seal Fernandinho’s replacement
According to ESPN, Barcelona have been informed that Saul’s ‘final destination will be Manchester.’
That is despite Saul having been open to a move to Barcelona, having seemingly changed his mind.
Their report reads: ‘Sources have told ESPN FC that Barca have been made aware of City already making firm steps to seal a deal for the Spain midfielder.
‘Saul had been open to a move to Barcelona but his people have now informed the Catalan club his final destination will be Manchester.’
ESPN also dive into what the fee could potentially be.
Despite Atletico wanting close to his release clause €120million, a fee around €80million would supposedly be enough.
This could finally end Manchester City’s search for Fernandinho’s successor.
The Brazilian is in the twilight years of his career and should Saul join, he would no doubt be a fitting heir to Fernandinho’s Manchester City throne.
