Newcastle’s resale problem with Salomon Rondon opens door for Everton

Soccer News

Newcastle & Salomon Rondon

Newcastle United are 13th in the Premier League.

The Magpies have 35 points on the board from 31 games.

A few weeks ago, Rafa Benitez claimed that 38 points should be enough to beat the drop.

That means Newcastle only require one more win to make sure they’ll remain in the Premier League.

But will Benitez still be at St James’ Park at the start of the 2019-20 season?

The Spanish manager has worked wonders on a shoestring budget in recent seasons.

Yes, Newcastle broke their transfer record to sign Miguel Almiron in January, but Newcastle’s spending compared to rivals has been significantly less.

Now the Star on Sunday have floated the claim that Newcastle could be about to lose Salomon Rondon in the summer.

The problem with Rondon surrounds money.

Salomon Rondon’s resale problem

Rondon is on loan at Newcastle from West Brom.

West Brom have a good chance at bouncing back to the Premier League this season.

The Baggies are fourth in the league, and seven points behind second-place Sheffield United.

It’s believed Rondon wants to complete a switch from West Brom to Newcastle, but the Star reveal a stumbling block:

An agreement is in place for the Venezuelan international, who scored in Friday’s 3-1 friendly win against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, to join any interested club for £16.5m providing the Baggies aren’t promoted to the Premier League.

If they are then the price goes up. But owner Mike Ashley is reluctant to sign off any transfer due to the striker turning 30 in September.

Rondon has scored nine goals and chipped in with five assists in the Premier League.

Eventon & Rondon

The Star link Everton to Rondon in the event Newcastle refuse to pay the transfer fee.

Everton have been in need of a number 9 ever since Romelu Lukaku joined Man United.

Signing Rondon for under 17 million pounds could be an excellent deal for the Toffees.
