Paul Scholes resigns as Oldham manager after just 31 days

Scholes’ managerial career stalling before it’s started

Paul Scholes has resigned as Oldham Athletic manager just 31 days after taking charge at the League Two club back in February.

The former Manchester United was thrust into the spotlight when he took on the task of Oldham manager.

The jury was out on Scholes with this being his first job and many of his former Man United teammates struggling in their first managerial adventure.

His record at Oldham hasn’t helped his managerial reputation with Scholes only winning one of his seven games in charge.

Now, Scholes has resigned from his position explaining that he could not ‘operate as I intended’.

Crypic statement raises more questions than answers

In a statement following his exit, Scholes has claimed it ‘became clear I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role.’

“It’s is with great regret I have decided to leave the club with immediate effect,” Scholes explained, as cited by the Guardian.

“I hoped to, at the very least, see out my initial term of 18 months as the manager.

“The fans, players, my friends and family all knew how proud and excited I was to take this role. In the short period since I took on the role it, unfortunately, became clear I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role.

“I wish the fans, the players and the staff – who have been tremendous – all the best for the rest of the season and will continue to watch and support the club as a fan.”

Champions League probabilities of the Manchester clubs, Liverpool & Spurs drawing each other

Scholes’ former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjær meanwhile is enjoying life in management at his former club.

The Norwegian has guided Man United into the next round of the Champions League despite a scare against Paris Saint-Germain.

Now, we’ve run through the probabilities of which club they could draw.
