“Ronaldo’s an extraordinary footballer, but Messi is a genius”

Fabio Capello is team Messi

Former England boss Fabio Capello has claimed while Cristiano Ronaldo ‘has made himself a champion’, Lionel Messi ‘is a genius’.

It’s been a big week for both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Both players faced crunch Champions League clashes against Atletico Madrid and Lyon and needed to step up.

Safe to say, both players did just that.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored an impressive hat-trick to drag Juventus through to the next round of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Messi took centre stage as Barcelona thrashed Lyon 5-1, securing their place in the next round.

Now, that age-old debate of Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo has been reopened.

“He invents things that others don’t see”

Former manager Fabio Capello has even chimed in on the debate.

When asked about the pair, Capello admitted that Ronaldo ‘has made himself a champion’.

However, ‘Messi is a genius and something else’ according to the former AC Milan boss.

“Ronaldo’s an extraordinary footballer, but Messi is a genius,”  Capello explained to Sky, as cited by Goal.

“There are three geniuses in football: Pele, Maradona and Messi. Period. Ronaldo is very strong as he lets you win everything, but Messi is a genius and something else.

“I faced Messi when he was 16 years old and I was amazed. He did the same things he does today but 20 years younger because he was born a genius.

“He invents things that others don’t see. Ronaldo has made himself a champion, but not a genius.”

“Home we smash them”: Evra reveals pre-Atletico Ronaldo messages

Even before a ball was kicked in the second leg of Juventus vs Atletico Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo had already predicted the outcome.

In a message released by Patrice Evra, Ronaldo admitted that Juventus would ‘smash’ Atletico at home.
