Arsenal & Edu
Arsenal fans might wonder haven’t they been here before?
Back in January reports spread that Arsenal were keen on appointing former midfielder Edu as their technical director.
Edu will always be an icon at Arsenal after being part of the Invincibles.
Back then, Globo claimed that Edu had rejected Arsenal’s offer.
Edu’s current job situation with Brazil
These days Edu works along Tite as the technical director for the Brazilian national team.
Edu is under contract with Brazil until 2022.
That means Edu is set to work for the CBF during the upcoming Copa America in Brazil in 2019, plus the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It’s believed Edu is committed to seeing through his current role with Brazil, which is why Arsenal failed to tempt him to return.
However the Daily Mail claim otherwise
This weekend, the Daily Mail have told their readers that the Edu story has taken a u-turn:
Edu is back on course to become Arsenal’s technical director, with 17-year-old Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli lined up to be the first signing of a summer rebuild under Unai Emery.
Arsenal have identified Martinelli, who playes for Ituano, as their first summer signing and the right-sided attacking player is now on the verge of committing himself to the London club.
It all sounds very exciting, however the Mail fail to offer any evidence to back up their claims.
So can the Mail’s update be believed? It’s difficult to see any credibility in it.
Arsenal, who refused to give the technical job to Sven Mislintat, have been linked to a raft of names to fill the position.
Marc Overmars and Paul Mitchell have been rumoured to be in the running.
