Christian Benteke ‘set for Chinese Super League move’

Soccer News

Eagles set for major shake-up this summer

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke is set to join Marouane Fellaini at Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng Taishan.

Benteke has struggled with injury and form problems during the past two seasons.

Despite scoring 16 goals during his first campaign at Palace, Benteke has been unable to replicate that form.

In the 17/18 season, Benteke only managed to score three goals in 31 appearances.

Benteke’s last campaign was no better either.

The Belgian only featured 16 times in the Premier League, scoring just one goal.

That isn’t good enough for a striker who originally cost Palace £27m when signing from Liverpool back in 2016.

Now, Benteke could be on his way out of the club with a move to the Chinese Super League in the works.

According to the Times, Benteke ‘looks likely’ to leave Palace for Shandong Luneng Taishan.

That’s after the striker was the subject of a £15million bid.

Benteke would earn a whopping £8 million a year after tax at the Chinese Super League club.

The report also reveals that Benteke has been on the transfer market for the past two seasons due to his Crystal Palace struggles.

Now, it looks as though Palace will finally shift the Belgian after Shandong Luneng Taishan’s bid.

Taishan is also the side compatriot Marouane Fellaini joined from Manchester United last summer.

Benteke isn’t the only striker Palace are looking to sell either.

According to the Times’ report, the Eagles will also try and sell Alexander Sorloth during the summer.

The Norwegian hasn’t scored a single goal for Palace and spent the second half of the season on loan at Gent.
