Foster: “The FA Cup was Gomie’s”
Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has admitted that he doesn’t want to start the FA Cup final because of Heurelho Gomes.
The Brazilian has started every game in the cup for the Hornets and Foster believes he should start again.
Both goalkeepers were informed at the start of the season that Gomes would start cup games and Foster wants that to continue.
Gomes has featured in wins over Woking, Newcastle United, QPR, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
In the final, Javi Gracia’s side will be looking to stop Manchester City from becoming the first English men’s side to win a domestic treble.
In a beautifully sporting moment from Foster, he told the Evening Standard:
“The FA Cup was Gomie’s and it would just be wrong now to take it away from him.
“He deserves it. When a goalie has played literally every round, then that is his thing.
“I knew that going into it from the very first round that he was going to play in the cups.
“That is cool with me, at least everyone knows where they stand.”
FA Cup review: Watford 3-2 Wolves
Watford demonstrated that the magic of the FA Cup is very much still alive as they overturned a two-goal deficit to book their return to Wembley last month.
Gerard Deulofeu started the fightback, before Troy Deeney netted an equaliser in the 94th-minute.
The former then produced another piece of magic to win it for Watford in extra-time.
