Sporting Lisbon chiefs are keen to have Bruno Fernandes available for the local derby against Benfica on Friday evening.

But Portuguese publication Record report the player is definitely on the way to Manchester United .

The newspaper have splashed the news on their front page on Tuesday, insisting Fernandes’ move is simply a matter of time.

Final details of the transfer need to be finalised but United will spend roughly £65m bringing their long-time target to Old Trafford.

Fernandes was heavily linked with a move to England in the summer.

But Tottenham have dropped out of the race this time around, leaving United a clean run.

The transfer could have been finalised earlier this month, and super agent Jorge Mendes is partly responsible for the delay.

Gedson Fernandes, of Benfica, is also on the move to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old is almost a Tottenham player after Mendes brokered a move to north London.

Bruno Fernandes has been tipped to have an instant impact at Old Trafford

And Portuguese outlet A Bola claim the agent being busy has slowed down Bruno’s move to England.

Sporting are now growing more and more confident that Fernandes will be available for the huge Benfica clash on Friday evening.

United are now keen to finalise a deal, offering a host of players in return for the player.

Marcos Rojo has been touted as a makeweight, while Joel Pereira and Angel Gomes have also been linked.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up over the Fernandes transfer pursuit – but it will not excite United fans.

Is Bruno Fernandes set to become a Manchester United player?

“I’ve got no transfer updates, so no,” he said this morning.

“If we get something that we can tell you about we will, but I’ve got no news now.”

But Old Trafford hero Nani has urged his former Sporting team-mate to make the switch.

“I often said to him, ‘You with the strength you have, if you train a little more you will explode and drive the English crazy’,” he told A Bola last August.

“England is where he will shine, it’s the league where the players get the ball in after every shot, there are spectacular goals.

“When I left he thanked me for the tips I gave him while I was there.”
